Google Checkout Sucks
If a $150 billion market capitalization can’t create a system even as stupid and crappy as PayPal’s, then what the hell was Google thinking? [*]
I only signed up for Google Checkout because there was a discount at a particular merchant. Otherwise, I prefer to just use simple online credit card transactions. I’ve been buying and selling on the Web since 1996. I’m hardly a noob at this.
But then I find that Google’s communication to the vendor is half-assed and indirect. And Google provides no controls for simply cancelling the payment from their end. Instead I’m forced to use the same incomplete, inconclusive communication with the vendor as before. The one that didn’t work already.
“Google Strikeout” might be a better name for this service.
Yes, this is a post written in anger and I’ll probably take some of it back later.
On the other hand, fuck it.
It’s like Google is trying to make me hate them, over and over this year. When they’re not trying to rob me blind through their “helpful Ad Words services”, they’re assisting some other company rob me–and they get a cut of the action.

[*] OK OK. I know what they were thinking: “Look! Money!”
Well. Welcome to the modern world. Thats all you can really say on that.
Most money gained by major companys these days is due to some dodgey thing in the back-end. Just dont sink low as them and things will sort out *Hopefully*
Google checkout nightmare.I’ve paid for an item that dropped from the original order-even though I saw the trainwreck coming and called or e-mailed each company about their mix-up.I just called another retailer and bought the item there, but now I’ve paid twice for it-no relief in sight.Haven’t received any other of the items from other retailers I used google flipout checkout with and one seems lost in-transit,the other hasn’t even shipped, and I unable to track one of the packages.Looks like I’ll be shopping local for duplicates with no hope of refund!Just a nightmare before Christmas for me.I know it sounds like I’m raging here but I just want others to not use this broken system,it doesn’t work correctly, and you won’t get any help-no matter who you call.I’ve been buying on the net for 10 years or more and as a mom of three, who needs convenience shopping and a discount if I can get it,well I’ve just never experienced anything like this,it’s horrible.
[...] Having been such a superfan, I honestly thought that maybe… just maybe it was a server glitch and I was one of the few affected. But doing a simple search (using Google), you can find similar experiences like here, here, here, here, and here for starters. I could probably spend all night aggregating all the links. [...]
Wow, can I tell you about my first (and only) GC purchase? What a rip! The “merchant” turned out to be bogus and I am still fighting google for a refund. I never got what I payed for and waited 3 days for a response from the GC team. When they did reply, they got my name wrong (not even close) and got everything else about my request wrong. It was a total lack of respect for me and for my situation. I have had to get Visa in the mix and file a formal complaint (and investigation) into the (so called) merchant and (sadly enough) Google. It has been over a week now and still have not heard from the merchant and have had only one half-assed attempt at communication from Google.
Very sad indeed.
Google, if you are reading this, stick to search engines. You have no business getting into this market.
I really hope that Google gets over this “TEST” of the Google Checkout system and moves on to what they do best, giving us free crap to waste time with … oh and the maps!!
Sorry Google, I gave you a chance and you blew it, bigtime! Maybe you should spend some of those record profits on better customer support???
…end of rant…
Here is my story
Google checkout SUCKS bigtime.
Here is my experience
12/23 – Order camera via Google checkout (Ritz Camera)
12/28 – Send enquiry for status : No response from Google
01/05 – Send enquiry again : No response from Google
01/08 – Called Ritz camera directly : they tell the order was cancelled the first day because the camera is out of production
01/08 – Send flaming email to Google
01/08 – Google sends email that order is cancelled.
It takes 15 days for Google to tell that order was cancelled, after 3 enquiry status to Google and one telephone call to Ritz
NEVER NEVER NEVER again any business to Google or Ritz for me.
Also had a crappy experience with Google Checkout. They charged the wrong card for me and never displayed which card they planned to charge, and did *nothing* for me when I reported the problem.
I can’t believe you ppl, first you attack Paypal NOW Google. You people are NEVER satisfied. Blame yourself for ordering off crappy sites and not the acting bank.
These are million dollar companies here, if you can do better..then LETS SEE!
Okay now Chris. These people complain because this is all true. You probably work for one of these merchants. Hmmmmmm… Chris sounds familiar. I have so many horrible stories to tell about GOOGLE CHECKOUT and PAYPAL. (THEY BOTH SUCK)
