It's All About the Indie

JoeIndie.com is about independent software development, with an emphasis on independent game development. Should Joe Indie ever branch out into indie film or music, those will likely be covered here too. I'm open to all sorts of possibilities.

The New Indie in Town

Independent film has been around over a century, dating back to the roots of the motion picture industry. Indie music, in its current incarnation, has been around since the middle of the 20th century.

Compared to those two, independent software, including independent games, is relatively new. Relatively. Independent software has been around as long as the personal computer, or about 25 years. So it can confidently buy liquor, but still may be asked to show its ID occassionally.

Its Indie Time

There has never been a better time to be an indie!

The last 10 years have seen the biggest growth of all things indie: film, music, books, software, games, and more. Fueled by the availability of inexpensive (but powerful) tools, the new ubiquity of the Internet, and the growth of try-before-you-buy marketing, indies have an oppurtunity like never before to make their mark on the world.
